Torresol Energy obtains certification for Excellence in workplace Health & Safety from Audelco
Audelco, Spanish company specialized in EHS management systems auditing and certification, has delivered the awarded Torresol Energy for its Excellence in workplace health and safety, during an event held in the central offices of Torresol Energy in Tres Cantos, Madrid.
According to Audelco, this certification is awarded to companies that apply the best practices in workplace health and safety, especially those that, due to their originality, efficiency and applicability, obtain outstanding results for some companies in the prevention of injuries or illnesses among their workers and help to create a healthy workplace environment.
During the award presentation, the Managing Director of Audelco, Alfonso Masoliver, emphasised “the special commitment of Torresol Energy with health and safety of its workers in its work centres, by means of the implementation of innovative actions that go beyond mere compliance with the OHS standard”.
The General Manager of Torresol Energy, Diego Ramírez, thanked Audelco and stated: “Torresol Energy has a firm commitment, involving all its employees, to ensure that Gemasolar, Valle 1 and Valle 2 are centres of reference in Health, Safety and Environmental Protection. Our professionals are highly qualified experts in the operation and maintenance of solar energy plants and have unique experience in the sector. Their aim is to: continue to provide excellence in the operation of the solar energy plants, which are now implementing the Lean production system, which guarantees the highest standards in technical, economic and environmental excellence“.
The granting of this certificate, aimed at companies with 100+ workers, means that Torresol Energy has obtained a score of 80 or higher over 100 in an audit carried out by Audelco, based on the VARA assessment system (Valoración Audelco del Resultado de Auditoría). The prize also recognises that the Torresol Energy accident rate is more than one third lower than other companies in its sector; and that the company has not suffered fatal accidents (which includes its own staff as well as contract employees).
As well as Torresol Energy, the 2018 edition of the awards also recognised the companies Accenture, Cepsa Química, Fábrica de Palos de la Frontera, EDP, Microsoft and Vodafone. Seven award-winning companies among the 300 companies audited.
The award for Excellence in workplace health and safety for Torresol Energy coincides with the tenth anniversary of the company’s foundation. It was created on 11 March 2008 by the engineering and technology group SENER (60%) and the renewable energy company from Abu Dhabi, MASDAR (40%) to promote the technological development, construction, operation and maintenance of large solar power plants. The company owns the renewable-energy power plants Gemasolar plant–a pioneering solar thermal power plant in its use of tower technology and molten salt heat storage technology, in Fuentes de Andalucía (Seville) – and Valle 1 and Valle 2-with SENERtrough® parabolic trough technology, in San José del Valle (Cádiz).
