Gemasolar will host the most innovative fashion catwalk
The Gemasolar thermosolar plant, owned by Torresol Energy and designed and built by the Engineering and Technology group SENER, will host next July 17 a fashion catwalk by the model and entrepreneur Jessica Minh Anh, renown for her international catwalks in symbolic scenarios such as the Grand Canyon, the Eiffel Tower and London’s Tower Bridge. Gemasolar becomes the first solar power plant to host a fashion show, that will be “the world’s most innovative catwalk” and will “celebrate the best of advanced technology and environment preservation” in words of Jessica Minh Anh.
The entrepreneur joins other institutions and companies that have seen in this pioneering facility a global icon for innovation and sustainability, among them Louis Vuitton, Mercedes Benz, Ford, Peugeot and Sony, that have used this scenario as a setting for their international campaigns.
Gemasolar is the first commercial scale thermosolar plant to apply central tower receiver and heat storage technology using molten salts, and is the first plant in the world that can generate 24 hours of uninterrupted power from solar energy alone, thanks to SENER’s technology. In 2014 (its fourth year of commercial operation), the plant’s production continued to exceed expectations, and the forecasts for 2015 are pointing in the same direction. Meanwhile, it has maintained its level of zero serious accidents since its commissioning. Moreover, it remains an emblematic facility both in the concentrated solar power sector and in society as a whole, as can be seen by how keen other industries are to link themselves to Gemasolar’s image and trough the numerous awards received for this project such as DESERTEC 2014, The European Energy Awards 2013 – which recognized SENER as Engineering Company of the Year for this project – and the Merit Award given by the International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC), which included the facility among the best global engineering works of the past 100 years.
Gemasolar Plant Manager, Raúl Mendoza, recently stated regarding this event “Gemasolar is a pioneering project designed by SENER that represents the future of power plants. Equally, it is a symbol of Torresol Energy’s commitment with future generations, as our aim has always been to introduce and test new technologies to make solar energy an economically competitive option, a real and sustainable alternative to traditional energy sources. In this regard, it is meaningful that Jessica has chosen this ecological scenario for her next event, and it speaks about her belief in green power too”.
